Uruswati Himalayan Folk Art MuseumFounded by famous Russian Painter, Professor Nicholas Roerich and his wife, Madame Roerich in 1928, the Uruswati Himalayan Folk Art Museum is located in Naggar Village. This place is located within the old Roerich Estate on the hill. The intention behind the founding of this museum was to provide a place where the experts can research and study the traditional Tibetan and Indian medicine. Also, they can study the ethos and history of Himalayan areas. The name of museum at the time founding was Research Institute of Naggar.
This museum is famous for its local and Russian folk art costumes, original paintings of various painters such as Roerich himself and his students and followers. Some other items include stone carvings, dolls, painted dishes and Russian musical instruments.
International Roerich Art GalleryThe International Roerich Art Gallery is located near Uruswati Himalayan Folk Art Museum at Roerich estate. The art gallery was previously the residence of Russian Painter, Professor Nicholas Roerich and his wife. The master painter settled at this place after the 1917 Russian Revolution. He painted Himalaya in hundreds of beautiful paintings. The Russian Painter, Professor Nicholas Roerich was a typical Renaissance man, who was a scholar, an archaeologist, a writer, a painter and also an explorer.
His son, Svyetoslav Roerich turned the residence and the legacy of this master painter into art gallery. Today, the art gallery is run by a trust which is formed jointly by the Government of Russia and Himachal Pradesh. The art gallery preserve and display the original paintings and quotation of the Russian Painter.
